Warehouse Packing Bench Setup Guide

Warehouse Packing Bench Setup Guide

The packing bench is the center of gravity for every fulfillment operation — every order passes through it, and every inefficiency in its setup multiplies across every order packed. A well-set-up packing bench reduces per-order packing time, reduces errors, and reduces the physical strain on the people who use it for hours every day. Here's your complete setup guide.

The Setup Principle: Everything Within Arm's Reach

Every supply needed to complete an order should be reachable without moving from the packing position. Supplies that require leaving the bench — even briefly — interrupt flow and slow throughput. Map every supply used in a typical order and ensure each one has a fixed, labeled location within arm's reach before the first order is packed.

Left Side: Box Storage

Pre-assembled boxes — bottom-taped, standing open — stored by size on wall-mounted 5-tier adjustable shelving to the left of the bench. The packer reaches left for a box, selects the right size in one motion, and places it on the bench surface. Pre-assembled boxes eliminate the assembly step during packing. Four sizes from the 32-pack assorted shipping boxes cover most product dimensions.

Right Side: Tape and Sealing Supplies

The tape dispenser gun in a fixed position at the right edge of the bench surface — always there, always loaded with heavy-duty packing tape. The 2-pack tape dispenser set means a backup is immediately available. Bulk tape rolls in a labeled clear bin below the bench surface for fast reloading without leaving the station.

Back Wall: Label Printer and Order Queue

The label printer mounted at the back of the bench, powered by the 6-outlet surge protector with individual switches. Labels print immediately after sealing — applied before the box moves to the carrier bin. The 4-pack stackable paper tray organizer beside the printer holds the order queue: incoming orders in the top tray, in-progress in the second, complete in the third.

End of Bench: Carrier-Sort Bins

Labeled stackable bins at the end of the bench — one per carrier. Packed and labeled orders go directly into their carrier bin. When the carrier arrives, their bin is already sorted and staged. No end-of-shift sorting, no scramble before pickup.

Overhead: Power Without Floor Cords

The 80ft retractable extension cord reel mounted overhead delivers power to the bench without floor-level cords. No tripping hazards, no cord damage from cart wheels, clean bench area from floor to ceiling.
